Abstract
Purpose: To research on nerve injury associated with pelvic bone fracture due to trauma

Materials & Method: We studied 77 patients retrospectively who had clear evidences of pelvic bone fracture. We compared differences in patterns of nerve injury according to the sites of pelvic bone fracture and these patterns were diagnosed through electrodiagnostic study.

Results: Auto-pedestrian accident was the most common cause (26/77, 33.8%) in study groups. Among types of pelvic bone fracture, the unilateral pelvic bone fractures showed 67.5% and bilateral pelvic bone fractures showed 32.5%. Pelvic bone fractures inside pelvis showed the highest incidences in the combined fractures involving both anterior and posterior compartment of pelvis. 13 out of 77 participants (16.9%) in study went through electrodiagnostic studies and could show the evidences of nerve injury. In these 13 cases, the single nerve injuries were with 11 (84.6%) cases whereas the complex nerve injuries were with 2 (15.4%) cases. Among the single nerve injuries, the lumbosacral plexopathy took the biggest part. And, the lumbar vertebral fracture was accompanied with 3 out of 4 patients with lumbosacral radiculopathy.

Conclusions: Among pelvic bone fractures, the single nerve injuries are much more than the complex nerve injuries in incidence. The nerve injuries associated with combined fractures of pelvis are more prevalent than the solitary fractures. Among plexopathies, lumbosacral plexopathy was the most common type.
